Two Wineries: A Day of Grapes

Our group set off for our first winery, Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, breezing along through the pleasant nearby countryside, the smell of heady earth in our nostrils, with passing views of dazzling emerald green flows of grasses and grape vines in a steady flowing stream. Never mind the 9am hour, tastes are always in style! We were graciously greeted by Kirsty who toured us by the vines nestled into their rocky earthly beds, through the extensive winery building, stopping along the way at oak barrels, neatly lined towers of wine bottles in dark cellars, and finally to the tasting room.

Personable owners Christophe and Fabrice at Domaine de la Mordorée in nearby Tavel welcomed us, humbly and patiently answering our many questions. A book of their many recognitions and honors lay on the countertop speaking to the result of their efforts at this small, family owned winery. Christophe's dedication to this place seemed to be simply written on his T-shirt: "Born to Make Wine"!

Of course, you can't go running off to drink at wineries morning and afternoon without stopping for a bite to eat. This called for an inbetween pit stop for more refueling and to experience the delights of an exquisitely prepared and tasteful culinary midday meal at Le Verger Des Papes, a hidden jewel.
